About Econometrics

Econometrics is a science which is  combination of economics and statistics. People mess with econometrics can also be named "mathematical economists".  Econometrics education emerges the combination of economic theory, mathematics and statistics. But it is defined a separate dicipline from each of three. The main objective of econometrics using mathematics and statistics to analyze various economic issues and to provide the most appropriate economic decisions.

Unlike  economics department,  department  of econometrics aims to train staff who knows economics also statistics and mathematics. In Turkey, studies on econometrics start in the 1960s began with the planned development studies. Starting  from 1960s since  structural analysis of Turkish's economy became a matter of interest, understanding the functioning of the economy  is became important and is tried to be established econometric models.

The graduated students from Department of Econometrics can work on government bodies such as Turkish Statistical Instute, Government Planning Organization, The Undersecretariat Turkish Treasury and Central Bank  also they can work on Research&Development, Planning and Budgeting departments of insurance companies and banks in private sector.

Marmara University Department of Econometrics

Econometrics department, which consists of two subdepartments involving Statistics and Operational Research, has been performing within the structure of Marmara University Economic and Administrative Sciences since 1986-1987 academic year. Since 2012 Department of Econometrics countinues its education activities under Faculty of Economics at Göztepe Campus. There are 9 professors, 1 associate professors, 4 assistant professors, 6 research assistants are working in the department. Econometrics Department, which has evening education application, has been giving education at the level of Bachelor’ s, master’s and  doctorate. The aim of econometrics club, which has rebuilded in 2004, is to make contact between business and students.  Various panels and trips are organised according to this aim. Beginning from first class computer education at department’s computer laboratory is available.
